TREVI: The city of oil
More than two hundred thousand trees extend their gnarled branches from the hills. Trevi offers a charming landscape that enchants the gaze, in a crossroads of scents, flavours and artistic beauties. Lying on a foothill of Mount Serano, dominating the plan of Spoleto, it has a characteristic urban plan which skyline is made up of a cluster of buildings culminating in the bell-tower of Saint Emiliano. Characteristic are the pebbles and bricks which form motives of ancient tradition on the paved alleys. The “panoramic avenue” is a flat tree-lined avenue, 800 meters long, which offers an attracting view of the valley below. Since the Roman age its history has been marked by the Via Flaminia and the river Clitunno, which frequent floodings led to the development of the built-up area on the more protected high ground, enclosed by a mighty defensive circle of walls in the 1st century B.C.
